Interwar and post-war properties can include cavity walls, later extensions and a range of floor constructions. Alterations to insulation, airtightness, heating and ventilation may affect internal moisture conditions, but the cause should be established from the evidence at the individual property.

Estate cottages and farmhouses can include traditional materials and later alterations that need to be considered together. Any repair approach should be appropriate to the individual building and supported by the evidence found during the investigation.
How We Work Differently
Richard Bull provides independent damp, mould and condensation investigation across the Derbyshire areas covered by the service. SPAB membership and training in older and traditional buildings support an evidence-led approach that considers original materials, later alterations and moisture behaviour at the individual property.
Independent surveying means keeping diagnosis commercially separate from remedial work. Damp Detectives does not carry out, sell or receive income from damp-proofing treatments arising from the survey. The survey fee is for the investigation and findings, rather than for generating subsequent treatment work. Some inspection businesses also provide remedial services; that does not automatically make their findings wrong, but it is important to understand the commercial relationship.

Relevant accessible internal areas and external elevations are inspected where safe and practical. Roof spaces, subfloors, concealed voids and other restricted areas are only inspected where suitable access is available and within the scope of the survey booked.
